The City of Laval has reached agreement with more than a dozen construction and engineering firms allowing the companies to repay about $20 million that was taken from the city through corruption and collusion over the past 20 years.
Radio Canada says the agreement involves a number of companies including SNC-Lavalin engineering, but it is not known how much each company will pay back.
When former Laval Mayor Gilles Vaillancourt was found guilty of a number of fraud-related charges and sentenced to prison for six years in 2016, he was also ordered to repay the City of Laval about $9 million dollars .
The Quebec government's voluntary reimbursement program, which allows companies to repay overcharges for government contracts without fear of prosecution, will expire Friday.
