Laval police are looking for more possible victims of a priest who is accused of sexually assaulting one of his followers dating back over 30 years.
Father Henri Paradis, 73, is accused of sexually touching a 24-year-old man who was one of Paradis' followers at Le Centre le Jourdain, the spiritual center and retreat Paradis founded in Montreal North in 1976.
The alleged crime happened at a home in Laval in the summer of 1988. Paradis would sometimes go to followers' homes to hear confession.
Police spokesperson Stéphanie Beshara said investigators have reason to believe there could be other victims.
"He was working at the spiritual center since 1976 and he had met a lot of people," said Beshara.
Paradis still works at Le Jourdain which refused comment to CJAD 800.
Paradis was arrested on April 4.
Beshara said Paradis returns to court in June.
"He was released with many bail conditions - he's not allowed to be in contact with minors," said Beshara.
According to the website Voyages Inter-Missions, Paradis is originally from Rivière-du-Loup, is a member of la Société des Missionnaires des Saints-Apôtres and was ordained in May 1972.
When contacted by CJAD 800, the travel agency that organizes religious pilgrimages and missions said Paradis used to work there but would not say when.
