A Midget BB hockey coach in Laval who was asking for $300 per player for his volunteer services will now see parents pay $200 instead through an agreement that has the blessing of Hockey Quebec, the organization overseeing the teams in the province.
In an update to a CJAD 800 Your Story brought to you earlier this month, Hockey Laval said that after a meeting, parents agreed to pay $200 instead of $300 but to a general fund to cover expenses for all coaches.
Jason Beauchamp, coach for the Dynamos Express Midget BB had asked every parent for $300 each to coach their kids to make up for time being away from his business, prompting complaints from some parents.
Hockey Quebec had said that payment to cover time away from work was not the direction they wanted to take but this is an acceptable compromise.
"As far as we are concerned, it is the wish of parents and we respect their decision. Knowing it is a team fund we all know that at the end of the year, if it is not spent, it is returned to parents," said general manager Paul Ménard in an interview with CJAD 800.
"So with that, we`re at ease with it."
Beauchamp did not return calls from CJAD 800 since the agreement was made.
Menard said parents who can't afford to pay are encouraged to discuss the issue with the team and the hockey association.
