A Laval man who was shot nine times in an attempt on his life in 2012 is calling on the Quebec government to make exemptions to the Supreme Court ruling that imposes time limits on criminal cases to get to the trial.
Dannick Lessard, 39, was shot nine times outside the Mirabel bar where he worked as a bouncer.
Lessard's presumed assailant, Wolfson Ryan had his proceedings stayed because his case was taking too long to get to trial and the Jordan ruling was invoked.
Ryan was already serving a life sentence for another murder.
But Lessard said it's not the point that Ryan is behind bars, insisting it's like being victimized twice.
"It's a total injustice," said Lessard in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
Lessard's petition wants more judges appointed in Quebec to help unclog the justice system and he wants very serious, violent crimes to be exempt from the Jordan ruling.
"It should be done on a case by case basis," said Lessard.
Lessard is still undergoing medical treatment and is still unable to work.
