For the second time this minor-hockey season, a head coach has found himself in hot water for a post loss punishment.
On Saturday afternoon the Atom AA Laval-Nord Cobra's lost their latest game 5-2, a result that did not sit well with the coach.
Parents told La Presse the nine and 10-year-old children were brought outside in full equipment (minus skates of course) to run laps around the Guimond de Laval Arena for about 20 minutes. They said they were only made aware of the punitive training session when they saw their children returning to the arena.
One parent claimed their son lives in fear of what punishments may come the team's way following a loss.
The Laval-Nord Minor Hockey Association met with the coach Tuesday to get his side of the story. Vice President Benoit Puskas told the newspaper that he admitted to the punishment and both sides came to a mutual agreement it would be in everyone's best interest he tender his resignation.
This is the second time this season a minor-hockey coach has made headlines following their reaction to a loss.
In September, Louis Isabella, the coach of the Lac-St-Louis Pee Wee AAA team was suspended for the remainder of the season for making his team of 11 and 12-year-olds do push ups after a loss.
Isabella reportedly had forced the kids to do between 100 and 350 push ups in full gear, a claim Isabella denied.
"People like to exaggerate," the coach said, admitting the real number was no more than 60 to 100. "I had them doing 10 push-ups at a time, with breaks in between."
Isabella added that it was not the loss that inspired the punishment, but their lack of effort and work ethic along with being disrespectful to each other and coaches on the bench.
