A doctor in Laval has been convicted on criminal charges following the death of a patient who had been discharged from hospital.
The Court's verdict is the first of its kind in Canada.
At the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital in Laval back in 2012, Dr. Jérôme Dufour allowed a patient in respiratory distress to leave the hospital after she had gone into a bathroom and had a smoke. Reports say that the woman was found dead a few hours later.
Doctor Dufour was convicted of an indictable offense and has been ordered to serve nine months of community service.
