With last spring's historic flooding will fresh in many minds, some municipalities along the Rivière des Prairies and Mille-Îles River are already in flood watch mode.
Officials in Terrebonne said water levels on the Mille-Îles River are being monitored 24/7 after at least three homes were flooded recently.
In a statement, the City warned ice jams and frazil ice have been obstructing water flow. In order to prevent additional flooding crews used an Amphibex ice breaker on Tuesday, adding the heavy equipment will be out on the water again Wednesday.
Efforts so far seem to have helped as water levels on the Mille-Îles River dropped by about 30 centimeters overnight into Wednesday.
In Laval the Civil Security department raised its flood alert level Tuesday evening.
In a release the City warned residents in the Ste-Dorothée, Laval-des-Rapides and Saint-François areas to be on the lookout for any signs of flooding as the amount of frazil ice on the river is at its highest level in nearly a decade and could ultimately lead to flooding.
Anyone in the affected areas is being asked to call 3-1-1 if they notice any signs of flooding.
