A cancer patient at Lakeshore General Hospital in comparing the room he's been placed in to a crack house in the east-end Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
45-year-old Michel Ouellet told the Journal de Montréal that he's been paying $89 a day for a semi-private room with paint peeling from all four walls, holes drilled into them, and holes ripped into the curtains.
The bathroom, he says, is fine.
He says he spends most of his days in the cafeteria or away from his room since he checked in with stomach pains last week. He told the paper he's tried to change rooms, without success.
The West Island health authority which manages the hospital (CIUSSS de l'ouest de l'île) says the hospital has staff dedicated to cleaning rooms, and reporting whether there are cleanliness issues to deal with.
The spokesperson, Ariadne Bourbonnière, says they have someone dedicated to making repairs year-round, though she didn't comment specifically on Ouellet's case.
