A man arrested for repeatedly calling for the murder of Muslims on social media has pleaded guilty to inciting hatred in a deal that keeps him from getting a criminal record.
Antonio Padula was arrested in January in the wake of a terrorist shooting at a Quebec City mosque. The court was shown repeated posts on Twitter from the 46 year old, calling for his short list of followers to kill all Muslims.
He made similar statements about refugees.
"I am against all those things and I need you to prove you are also, by killing all refugees at the airport before they come rape your family," he wrote on Twitter, under the username @Hermit_Spirit.
Padula had argued his tweets were meant to be sarcastic. All the same, he pleaded guilty and will be on probation for a year.
The Kirkland man was facing the possibility of more than a year in jail.
