Karim Jean-Gilles, the Brossard man facing negligence charges after one of his pit bull-type dogs mauled a 7-year-old girl in a park back in 2015, was found guilty in a Longueuil courtroom Thursday.
Jean-Gilles was found guilty on a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and could face up to 10 years in prison.
He will be sentenced on March 23.
On the afternoon of Sept. 20, 2015, his mother was walking two of Jean-Gilles' dogs in Brossard's Marquise Park when one of them suddenly lunged after young Vanessa Biron, attacking her face and dragging her across the park for several meters.
The girl was left with fractures to her skull and hand, scars on her face, and a badly broken cheekbone.
The dogs weren't on a leash at the time of the attack, and prosecutors suggested Jean-Gilles' mother wasn't capable of properly handling the dogs.
