Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon has been officially arraigned in court on charges of rape and indecent assault.
Rozon was not present in court and did not have to be at this stage.
He was represented in court by a lawyer who waived the reading of the charges and did not enter a plea, also standard at this point in the proceedings.
"We disclosed the evidence in the file so that the defence could study the evidence and make a decision as to the next appropriate steps to take," said crown prosecutor Bruno Ménard.
Those steps include having a jury trial or a trial by judge alone.
The judge granted Ménard's request for a publication ban on any information that could identify the complainant.
The alleged crimes date back to 1979 in the Laurentians community of St-Sauveur.
At the time the charges were filed last month, Rozon issued a statement saying he was made aware of them and that he'd continue to defend himself before the courts.
Rozon also faces a $10M civil lawsuit by several women who are also accusing him of sexual abuse.
Rozon has denied the allegations.
