A bail hearing has been postponed for the teen accused of killing another teen in Côte-St-Luc last month until a judge rules on which court has jurisdiction over the bail hearing.
Darius Brown, 17, was killed after an altercation in mid-November. Police had first mistakenly said Brown died after a fall while trying to mug a woman.
The suspect, also 17, cannot be named since he is a minor.
He returned to Quebec Youth Court today only to find out his bail hearing is on hold. His lawyer is trying to transfer the hearing to Quebec Superior Court. The youth court judge wanted to decide on that this morning but the defence lawyer also disputed that and wants Superior Court to make the call. A hearing on these matters is set for next week.
Quebec Superior Court usually hears murder cases which are rare in youth court.
The accused's parents and family of the victim were also in youth court for the brief hearing.
Brown's funeral and church visitation are set for tomorrow between 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Westview Bible Church in Pierrefonds.
A GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for funeral costs has raised over $25,500 so far; the original goal was $10,000.
