An accident on the approach to the Ile-aux-Tourtes bridge early Tuesday afternoon clogged traffic in the area for over 5 hours.
Authorities say a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the bridge, leading to about 700 litres of diesel fuel and another 100 litres of oil spilling onto the eastbound highway 40.
No one was hurt, but cleaning up the spill, and the truck, caused massive delays and led to several vehicles being trapped in traffic for hours.
Traffic was redirected to eastbound Highway 20 but that quickly backed up.
Westbound lanes on Highway 40 near the bridge and westbound Highway 20 heading to the Galipeault bridge were also affected by the clean-up and curiousity.
