A Laval mayoral candidate said he's shocked and hurt after a rival used a sledgehammer to destroy his election signs.
Alain Lecompte, a city councillor running as an independent, was filmed during the incident on St Martin Blvd., saying the law states the signs can only go up as of September 21st.
The signs belonged to Action Laval's Jean-Claude Gobé, who apparrently did the filming.
Gobé said signs can go up before then, but cannot be claimed as electoral expenses, that those expenses must be paid for privately.
"It was incredible, an official, elected member of the city, could take a hammer, a big hammer, use that to destroy everything", said Gobé.
Like Montreal, Laval will hold municipal elections November 5th.
