Montreal’s marathon weekend has wrapped up and officials are still feeling comfortable about their decision to cancel Sunday's full marathon.
Even after Montreal marathon organizers made the difficult decision to cancel this weekend’s main event, the 42.2km distance, medical officials confirm that more than 900 people needed medical attention because of the heat.
"We had a lot of heat-related illnesses, but overall, well within what we were expecting", said Eddy Afram, the medical co-ordinator for the Montreal Marathon.
Most patients required physiotherapy-related care, but there were also case of heat-exhaustion, fatigue, cramps and so on.
Urgences Santé dealt with more serious cases.
The half marathon and the 10 K races were held as scheduled on Sunday.
