Get your umbrella ready, it's going to be a wet end of the week in the Montreal and surrounding area.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement and rainfall warning for the Montreal, Châteauguay - La Prairie, Laval and Longueuil - Varennes areas, calling for increased rainfall over the next three to four days.
The weather service said a system developing south of the Great Lakes Thursday morning will make its way to Southern Quebec, bringing rain along with it, near midday. The rain is expected to rapidly intensify Thursday evening, becoming heavy overnight, with amounts between 50 and 70 millimetres projected to fall through to Friday evening.
The rain won't stop there.
A low pressure system to the east of Florida could mix with the system already hitting the southern part of the province, which if it does happen would produce more rainfall over Southern and Central Quebec Saturday and Sunday. The weather office noted it is too early to know the specific amount of precipitation.
Environment Canada said rainfall warnings are only issued when significant rainfall is expected, and warns heavy downpours can cause flash floors and water pooling on roads.
