If you look back through hockey's history, there have been many, many jersey styles. Who knew one of them was high-fashion?
Italian fashion house Versace recently unveiled a new, very expensive, very familiar sweatshirt.
However, the wife of a Redditor on the r/Canucks forum noticed the shirt has a remarkable resemblance to the Vancouver Canucks "flying skate" logo, first seen in 1978 before becoming the full time logo in 1985.
The team hasn't used the emblem on its jersey since 1997, but the design remains a part of the club's history and can still be seen in arena's all over the NHL today.
"This sweatshirt is exactly what we'd expect a basic from Versace to be - a body-hugging, sensuous design with a bold pattern, emblazoned across the front. Wear yours with anything and everything - from boyfriend-cut jeans to feminine skirts" reads the product description.
The flying Versace skate sells for €860, or roughly $1260 Canadian.
The Canucks organization has not made any comment on the plagiarism allegations. It's unknown if the club will be sending a cease-and-desist letter or using the sweaters as an alternate jersey during the upcoming NHL season.
Regardless of what happens, one thing is for certain, if Versace was going to rip-off a Vancouver Canucks jersey its designers picked the wrong one.
