The best teacher in the world might be from Quebec.
Yvan Girouard is one of 50 finalists chosen by more than 20,000 teachers in 179 countries.
The high school science teacher works at Ecole secondaire les Etchemins in Levis, near Quebec City.
The 10 finalists will be chosen in February.
The winner, to be announced in June, receives a million dollars.
Last year, the 54-year old Girouard was given the Canadian Prime Minister's Award for education excellence.
Girouard has been referred to as the "Duracell" teacher because his energy not only inspires his students, but those from other classes as well.
One former student is quoted as saying Girouard is a teacher who makes an impresion on everyone, adding he's demanding, but fun, which sets him apart from other teachers.
