There were 604 murders reported by Canadian police departments in 2015.
One quarter of those murder victims were indigenous individuals.
New figures released Wednesday by Statistics Canada suggest 33 percent of killers in solved murder cases were indigenous.
The 2015 national total is up by 83 murders from the year before and is at its highest level since 2011.
The increase is attributed to 27 more murders in Alberta, 19 more murders in Saskatchewan, and 18 more murders in Ontario than in 2015.
Saskatchewan has the highest murder rate at 3.79 per 100,000 residents.
The lowest murder rate in the country is in Newfoundland and Labrador at .57 per 100 thousand residents.
The Quebec murder rate is one of the lowest in the country at .93.
