Hundreds of immigrants are crossing the border illegally between Quebec and the US.
That's according to statistics with the Canadian Border Services Agency.
The data shows a surge in the amount of asylum claims being made at C-B-S-A land border ports of entry within the province.
More than 450 claims were made last month.
That’s said to be more than triple the claims made during the same period in 2016 and nearly 10 times as many as were made in 2014 or 2015.
One official said part of the reason for the jump is fear following the election of Donald Trump.
An RCMP spokesperson confirmed many of those who cross illegally are arrested.
A police official said there's been a significant increase in illegal crossings across Canada, but that the biggest jump has been in Quebec.
The official added the increase began several months ago.
