The opening of Montreal's often troubled World Film Festival is just a month away, and there are two signs that the event is again struggling financially.
Hydro Quebec has cut the power to the projection room in the festival's home, the Imperial Theatre on Bleury Street. The utility won't say just how much it is owed.
And La Presse reports that two South Shore businesspeople who loaned the festival money a couple of years ago are now trying to seize the Imperial, as repayment of a debt that has ballooned with interest to more than $4-million.
Festival founder Serge Losique insists that the event will go forward as scheduled August 24 to September 4, with generators powering the projectors if need be.
