Two people are in Laval police custody in connection with a wave of store thefts over the last two years.
Police say a couple in their 30s broke into several stores between 2016 and earlier this year in Laval, Longueuil, Gatineau and Terrebonne.
They would steal items like perfume, cosmetics, big-ticket electronic items, and booze — basically, anything they can resell for cheap, which police say they did across the province.
The most high-profile of those thefts was at the Bay store in Carrefour Laval on Aug. 19, 2017. Police say they stole about $500,000 worth of goods from the store, and in their haste to flee the store, large suitcases full of stolen loot fell out of their getaway vehicle onto a roadway leading out of the parking lot.
38-year-old Evens Riodin and his 30-year-old wife Gabrielle de Morasse face a number of charges, including theft, break-and-enter, and handling stolen goods.
Police say other arrests are possible in the case.
