Hudson mayor Ed Prevost died Tuesday following a long illness. He was 76.
He was first elected to the mayor's chair in the off-island town in 2013 on a platform of restoring financial stability to Hudson, after a former director-general, Louise Léger-Villandré, was found to have defrauded the town of more than $1 million. She was sent to prison in 2016.
"He was a great man dedicated to Hudson, honest and a straight shooter. Someone who absolutely wanted to restore respect in Hudson," town councillor NIcole Durand told CTV Montreal.
Prevost had battled an illness for more than two years, which caused him to miss several months' worth of council meetings last year.
He chose not to run for another term. Pro-Mayor Natalie Best takes over for the time being.
