If Montreal's first female mayor got a post-election honeymoon, a new poll suggests it's well and truly over.
An Ipsos poll of 502 Montrealers done for La Presse shows 59.2 per cent of Montrealers said they were either somewhat or very dissatisfied with the new administration's performance, versus 33.8 per cent who said they were somewhat or very satisfied.
The poll was conducted between Feb. 2 and Feb. 6, as the administration was still receiving flack for its snow removal job and an unpopular 2018 budget.
The figures also show a significant generation gap — 63.6 percent of those 55 and over told Ipsos they were dissatisfied, while in the 18-34 age group, 50 per cent said they were satisfied, while 36 per cent marked themselves down as dissatisfied.
Meanwhile, if the Nov. 5 election were to do over again, Denis Coderre would win with 40 per cent of the vote, versus 37 per cent for Plante. 22 per cent of those polled would be on the fence.
Are you satisfied with the Plante administration's performance so far?
Very satisfied: 7.5 per cent
Somewhat satisfied: 26.3 per cent
Somewhat dissatisfied: 35.1 per cent
Very dissatisfied: 24.1 per cent
Don't know/won't say: 7.0 per cent
A whopping 77.2 per cent told Ipsos they're unhappy — including 51.7 per cent who said they were very dissatisfied — with the Plante administration's 2018 city budget, and the tax and fee increases contained in it.
Fully 61 per cent of those polled are also dissatisfied with the city's snow removal job — including 68 per cent of those 55 and over. Just 35 per cent said they were satisfied.
On the flip side, 74 per cent of those polled were in favor of Plante's announcement of a decision to purchase 300 new hybrid buses for the STM, and 66 per cent were in favor of the decision to cancel the Formula E race — something even a majority of those who called themselves Denis Coderre supporters agreed with.
51 per cent were pleased with the Plante administration's decision to cancel the previous administration's plan for heated sidewalks as part of the Ste. Catherine St. rebuild.
Montrealers, however, remain split on the so-called 'pit-bull ban' brought in by Denis Coderre and cancelled by the Plante administration — 42.3 per cent support the cancellation, while 44.1 per cent do not.
