Montreal's annual marathon, and the multiple events surrounding it, will take place this weekend, and that will mean road closures in the east end and eastern part of downtown for much of Saturday and Sunday morning.
This year's edition of the 42.2 km race — officially branded the Oasis Rock n' Roll Marathon — gets underway at 7:10 on Sunday morning at the corner of René-Levesque Blvd. and St. Urbain St. The runners will make their was east through Gay Village, and then all the way east along Hochelaga St. to Gonthier St. — well beyond the Honoré-Beaugrand metro station — and then back again, by way of Olympic Stadium and Lafontaine Park before the race ends at Place des Arts.
The 21.1 km half-marathon, meanwhile, also starts at 7:10 a.m. the corner of René-Levesque and St. Urbain, and finishes at Place des Arts, but the runners will only go as far east as Olympic Stadium.
The 10k, 5k and 1k runs take place on Saturday morning. The 10k run starts at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of St. Laurent and de Maisonneuve Blvds., and goes through the streets of the Plateau and downtown before ending at Place des Arts.
The 5k run gets underway at 8 a.m., and follows a similar path.
The 1k run is basically a run around the Place des Arts complex, and gets underway at 10:35 a.m.
