Seven Greenpeace activists — including a Hudson grandmother who spoke with CJAD's Andrew Carter on Monday morning — were arrested today while conducting an anti-pipeline protest at the port of Montreal.
It's not clear what charges they'll face.
The activists, including June Kendall, chained themselves to a gate and other equipment at the port's Valero pier at 6 a.m. They chained themselves to pipes that are used to load trucks
Kendall told Andrew Carter she got involved with Greenpeace around eight years ago — she says too many things can go wrong with transporting oil via pipeline.
"It's an accident waiting to happen. It's very dangerous," she says. "If this happens in the middle of winter, with the river covered in ice, it'd never be cleaned up."
News last week that prime minister Justin Trudeau approved the Kinger Morgan Trans Mountain and Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline sparked outrage among environmentalists, and native groups — many of whom called into question Trudeau's environmental priorities.
