Greater Montreal's Greek community is upset about a decision by Elections Quebec that has split and redistributed electoral boundaries in Chomedey, Laval.
This redistribution affects the community that which has historically resides in that part of the city.
Pelagia Adamidis, interim executive director of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal, said she wants Elections Quebec to repeal its decision, saying this prominent community should be respected.
'By splitting the Greek community in the Chomedey riding into two separate ridings, it's diluting our Greek vote,' Adamidis said.
Stefano Samonas is a Greek resident from Chomedey who believes this split will hurt the community in the long-run.
'It's unfortunate because people should be united,' said Samonas. 'We are more powerful that way and it's a shame that people are being divided.'
There is no formal appeal process in place as of yet, however, the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal plans to express its position in writing to Elections Quebec.
