If you are waiting to be assigned to a family doctor, it's best to double the estimated wait time the government's website gave you.
QMI is reporting that when Quebec set up its special Quebec Family Doctor Finder allowing people to sign up online or by telephone for a general practitioner, more than 350,000 people who'd already been waiting went to the front of the line but saw their wait times reset to zero.
As a result, the estimated wait times posted on the site are misleading. The guichet may show the average wait time in Montreal is 271 days, but in reality, 499 days is closer to what many people are experiencing.
