If you bought a heat pump and furnace from Sears over the past years, you are out of luck when it comes to warranties and repairs.
A CJAD listener said she couldn't find anyone for repairs for a water leakage she said she believed was linked to her heat pump that she bought at Sears in 2013.
She said she had a ten year warranty for parts and labour and that when she contacted Sears, they told her they could no longer help her.
Spokesman Vince Power tells CJAD 800 News that since they entered CCAA protection in June, they have been unable to honour product warranties for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) units.
Power said unfortunately the customer will have to arrange and pay for repairs on their own.
He noted that their HVAC service team thought that the leaking situation may not be a situation that would have been covered by the warranty anyway.
But for others in a similar situation with a warranty and needing repairs, there is no immediate recourse. Power said they will have to arrange for their own repairs at their own cost. They can file a claim as an unsecured creditor once the process is established.
If you need someone for repairs for HVAC units, Power said Sears is familiar with the following who could help:
• Omnia Frigo Inc., 4987 rue Valery, St-Leonard, 514-224-0478
• Chauffage Daniel Theriault Inc., 65 Brunswick Blvd., Suite 114, Dollard Des Ormeaux, 514-542-0512
CJAD 800 also got a call from another company offering its services.
