Good news! There's been a noticeable decrease in the number of arson fires in Montreal in 2018.
As of December 27th the police arson squad has opened 440 investigations, compared to 521 for all of 2017. That's a decrease of nearly 15% if the number remains unchanged until the end of New Year's Eve.
So far this year according to La Presse, ten people have died in fires in the city this year compared to 14 in 2017.
Two deadly fires are still under investigation and one of thosetwo cases is being investigated as a homicide, after the discovery of a man's body in a burning car near the Metropolitan on November 23rd.
