Two Montreal-area women who made headlines around the world back in August for their drug-related arrests, and their sultry Instagram travelogues, are due back in an Australian court on Wednesday morning — or Tuesday evening, Montreal time.
22-year-old Melina Roberge and 28-year-old Isabelle Lagacé had spent the summer traveling around the world on a cruise ship. When their ship berthed in Sydney, Australia, authorities boarded the ship and found 35 kilograms of cocaine hidden in their luggage.
A 63-year-old Montreal-area man, André Tamine, also faces charges in the case.
The drugs contained in their bags had a street value of around $30 million.
The three face life in prison if convicted.
All three had been identified as "high-risk passengers" by the Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
