Gilbert Rosenberg, the co-founder of the landmark Gibby's restaurants, has died at the age of 86.
Rosenberg — known as 'Gibby' to his family and friends — died of a heart attack at his Westmount home on March 1.
His is survived by his wife of 56 years, Soryl Shulman.
Rosenberg launched his namesake steakhouse with two partners in St. Sauveur in 1970. The Old Montreal location, located in a 200-year-old former stable, opened for business in 1972.
500 mourners turned out for his funeral service at Paperman & Sons on Sunday.
