The price of gas in Montreal and across Canada fell to its lowest level in a year this weekend.
According to gasbuddy.com, prices on the island have been as low as $1.13 a litre this weekend, while off-island prices were as low as $1.10.
In the rest of the country, prices fell even lower: prices in most of western Canada were consistently below $1.00, and in the nation's capital, gas was available for as low as $0.89.
Analysts have said that prices are likely to continue a downward trend -- along with the price of oil -- in the short-term.
That could change, however, in the new year, especially in provinces that have failed to implement a carbon-pricing strategy, where the federal backstop will kick in, likely raising the price per litre next door in both Ontario and New Brunswick.
