Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois is officially Québec Solidaire's candidate for the coming provincial byelection in Gouin. Tonight, local party members cast their votes to confirm him as the party's candidate.
Once a leader of the student protests over tuition-fee increases back in the spring of 2012, he ran unopposed for the party's nomination for the seat, once held by former spokesperson and party founder Francoise David. She resigned earlier this year.
Nadeau-Dubois thanked his supporters within the party, saying that he feels "at home...surrounded by friends and comrades" within Québec Solidaire. He is also seeking the role of co-spokesperson within the party, as is Sainte-Marie–Saint-Jacques MNA Manon Massé. Party members will elect their next two co-spokespeople later this spring.
A byelection to fill the seat must be held by late June, but no official date has yet been set.
