Canada's foreign affairs minister has delivered an impassioned defence of a free press after U-S President Donald Trump lashed out again at the media, this time accusing journalists of causing a series of letter bombs.
Chrystia Freeland, a former journalist herself, says politicians have a responsibility to be very clear that a free press is a crucial part of democracy.
She says Canada condemns attacks on journalists.
U-S law enforcement is scrambling to track down the source of at least 10 mail bombs sent to various Democrat political leaders and prominent Trump critics.
Prime minister Trudeau reacted to the attempted bombings, saying the deliveries are very worriesome.
"All citizens deserve to live in peace and security and a free press is foundational. In any democracy, we must ensure that they can do thier important work without fear. I want to assure all Canadians that we are monitoring the situation closely and as always Canada stands ready to provide assistance to Americans, if need be", said Trudeau.
