An overnight fire in LaSalle sent four people to hospital Wednesday.
The flames broke out at about 1:15 A.M. inside the electrical room in the basement of a three-storey apartment building on Francoeur St. near Newport.
While the blaze was kept to the basement, thick smoke filled the building causing some panic.
Three people, including one police officer, were treated for smoke inhalation.
A 61-year-old woman was injured after she jumped from her second storey balcony before firefighters arrived.
Three other residents were helped down from their balconies once crews were at the scene.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
Power to the building was cut, forcing all residents to relocate. The Red Cross is helping a couple dozen while the rest have found other accommodations.
