U.S. prosecutors are charging a former executive with Quebec-based drug giant Valeant Pharmaceuticals and the former CEO of Philidor Rx Services, a now-defunct mail-order pharmacy.
They are accused of being involved in a multimillion-dollar fraud and kickback scheme to defraud Valeant.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York has scheduled a news conference for later today to discuss the charges.
The office issued a statement saying it will announce charges against Gary Tanner, a former executive at Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., and Andrew Davenport, the former CEO of Philidor Rx Services.
Valeant cut ties last year with Philidor, a mail-order pharmacy that was based in Pennsylvania and distributed some of Valeant's specialty drugs.
In a statement, Valeant said it learned today that a criminal complaint was filed in relation to Philidor and that it continues to co-operate with all relevant authorities in the matter.
The Laval-based firm said Tanner was no longer an employee as of Sept. 13, 2015.
