Longtime radio personality Andre Maisonneuve, the one-time host of the morning show on Montreal's Mix 96, died last Friday in Ottawa following a brief battle with cancer.
Maisonneuve, who sometimes used the on-air name Katfish Morgan, spent more than a quarter-century in Canadian radio, working in several cities.
He came to Montreal in 1998 to become co-host of the morning show at CJAD's sister station Mix 96 — now Virgin Radio Montreal.
In 2005, he moved to Ottawa to join the rock station Live 88.5, where he worked until his death. He had been off the air since he was diagnosed this past spring. His cancer battle was kept a secret — in May, the station tweeted that he "was taking some well-earned time off."
This weekend, Andre's friends and former colleagues shared their memories on social media.
"Andre Maisonneuve was one of those guys with a voice that wrapped you up like a hug and a laugh you wanted to earn," wrote former Mix 96 collaborator John Moore, who now hosts the morning show at Toronto's Newstalk 1010. "And in life he was one of the sweetest guys you could know. Most radio people want to hear their own voice. Andre liked to listen and make the people around him sound better."
