An Italian language newspaper is reporting that former Liberal MNA John Ciaccia has died.
Ciaccia was the long time MNA for Mont-Royal and served in the governments of Robert Bourassa and Daniel Johnson Jr.
He held several cabinet positions including Native Affairs during the Oka Crisis of 1990.
Early in his career, in 1974, Ciaccia was suspended from the Liberal caucus after he voted against Bill 22, which banned non-English-speaking Quebecers from sending their children to English school.
Ciaccia retired from politics in 1998.
