Laval police are dealing with their first carfentanyl seizure in the city after being called to a apartment at the end of January where someone was suffering from an overdose.
Officers arrived at the apartment and discovered an array of drugs and paraphernalia next to the victim, including some curious looking blotter stamps.
“When they did find that particular blotting paper with a lot of colours on it, they sent that for analysis,” said police spokesperson Evelyn Boudreau.
The analysis came back late last week confirming the deadly drug, carfentanyl. The drug is about 100-times more powerful than fentanyl and 10,000 times stronger than morphine.
Just the smallest dose of this stuff is enough to kill a user by making a victim’s body forget to breathe and they die from a lack of oxygen.
“When you even touch that piece of paper there’s a certain portion of absorption through the skin,” said Boudreau.
Simply touching the blotters can put a person at risk of an overdose.
“I don’t know if people are going to be intrigued and want to try it or the contrary. We all are warning to never touch that (drug).”
Police and Laval public health are warning drug users and the public about the blotters, which were likely purchased online via the dark-web and have an image of a man on a bicycle riding on a green mountain.
