Firefighters were battling a general alarm blaze and the bitter cold late Wednesday night in the Rosemont-Petite-Patrie borough.
The flames broke out inside an empty apartment building on 14th Ave. between Rosemont Blvd. and Dandurand St.
It took a little under two hours for firefighters to get the fire under control.
It's believed the blaze started on the first floor and then quickly spread to the rest of the building.
The cause is still under investigation.
Temperatures at the time firefighters were working hit -16°C but dipped to -27°C with the wind.

Earlier in the night fire crews in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield were called to the Victor-Leger Centre, a senior's home for semi-autonomous people.
The flames broke out at about 8:45 P.M. and forced the evacuation of the more than 100 rooms.
Firefighters acted quickly getting the blaze under control in under an hour.
Some of the Centre's residents were taken to a nearby hotel while others were allowed to return to their rooms.
The cause of the fire has been linked to an electrical problem.
With the wind-chill temperatures hit -23°C as the building was being evacuated.
