A 57 year old woman was found dead inside an apartment of a building on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard near Langelier Friday night.
Montreal police were called to the scene by firefighters at 9:30 after the victim was located. Police spokesman Manuel Couture says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to resuscitate her.
Couture says the arson squad has taken over the investigation, who theorize the fire may have been started by a cigarette.
Damage to the building was limited to the one unit. Several tenants in adjacent units had to be temporarily evacuated but have since been allowed to return home. No one else was hurt.
