With classes back in session and most people back at work, your return to a routine next week may be a little more chaotic because there will be fewer police officers and police cadets directing traffic at construction sites across the city.
La Presse reports that the police department has informed city officials that they have changed the criteria for evaluating construction zones and will no longer assign officers or cadets as freely as they have in the past.
The newspaper says the number of hours assigned to the 120 police cadets has been greatly reduced in recent weeks.
The police department won't comment but a city official says police will no longer be deployed as a matter of course, but only after a construction zone is assessed for its impact on pedestrian and vehicular safety.
