As one topless protester was in court here in Montreal, the founder of the Quebec chapter of Femen—known for staging topless protests on issues relating to women—is dealing with a prostitution charge in New York.
"[Kseniya Chernyshova] spent 24 hours in jail, her personal money and phone are still confiscated," said a Femen press release. "She was taken violently by the police while working."
"[She] sees her scenario as another injustice to women and to people in general. Under the NY law, she was suspected to be guilty of Prostitution.
"Xenia [as she is known professionally] denies all charges and was released on November 12, 2016."
News of her arrest comes as another Femen demonstrator was in Montreal court. Neda Topaloski's lawyers are pushing for her charges to be stayed, alleging unneccessary violence from security as they arrested for demonstrating topless at festivities for the 2015 Montreal Grand Prix.
