The Trudeau government is expected to unveil its long-awaited marijuana legislation on Thursday — exactly a week before what many consider to be international cannabis day, 4/20.
A senior government source suggests the government is aiming to make pot legal in Canada by July 1, 2018, at the latest.
The new legislation is expected to follow many of the recommendations contained in last fall's federal task force report on pot legalization, including setting the minimum age at 18 to buy marijuana — though provinces would have the option to set their own ages.
Pot legalization was one of prime minister Justin Trudeau's major election promises in 2015. Ever since, pot activists have been attempting to hold the Liberals to that promise.
