A retired man in the North Shore has been ordered by a judge to continue his alimony payments for his 31-year-old son.
According to the Journal de Montreal the man makes $42,000 a year from his pension but half of it is for his son's schooling.
The man was ordered to pay $570 dollars a month so his son can finish law school.
In addition to that he must also repay the cost of his son's tuition at the École du Barreau, where he is pursuing a Master's degree in Notarial Law.
On top of that, as if that was not enough, the judge also sentenced him to pay $6,000 in legal fees and $5,000 in damages for comments he supposedly made on Facebook.
In 2011, the father attempted to have his payments cancelled, as his income had decreased after retirement from $ 56,000 a year to $ 42,000. The court, however, rejected his argument.
Because the son is in debt over $50,000 he is no longer eligiable for loans or bursaries.
