Quebec Superior Court has ordered a couple of pit bull owners to pay a family nearly a quarter of a million dollars in compensation after an attack on a schoolgirl six years ago.
Megan Dube was 12 years old when she was mauled by three pit bulls as she walked across her neighbour's lawn while on her way home from school in the community of La Sarre.
She was left with scarring on her legs, arm and chest and suffered symptoms of post-traumatic stress. She remains under the care of a psychologist.
The Journal de Montreal reports that a judge ordered the dog owners to pay $135,000 to the victim, plus $87,000 to her parents, who suffered distress and loss of income while caring for her after the attack.
