Facebook has officially announced it's opening its newest Artificial Intelligence research lab in Montreal.
The company is investing $7-million that will go towards research for the general Artificial Intelligence community in the city.
The announcement was made at McGill University this morning in the presence of several dignitaries including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Montreal mayor Denis Coderre.
The lab will be headed up by McGill University researcher Dr. Joelle Pineau.
It's currently in operation with 10 researchers and that number should grow to over 30 in the next year.
The company said it chose Montreal because of its pool of talent in the field.
The lab in Montreal is the first in Canada and the fourth in the world, after New York, Paris and Menlo Park in California.
