CAA Quebec was busier than usual on Wednesday because of the extreme cold.
By 3 p.m., the roadside assistance service took more than 6,500 calls as the cold airmass swept over the province.
Annie Gauthier, spokesperson for CAA Quebec, said they have been fully staffed on the roads and in their call centres.
Around 70 per cent of their calls have been for boosting. The extreme cold makes it hard for cars to start.
Gauthier said a batch of employees were exclusively dedicated to boosting cars.
But she said that in some cases, more help is needed.
"Some boosting may not be sufficient," Gauthier said. "Major repairs or a kind of intervention from a mechanic would be necessary."
To ensure your car runs smoothly during the cold, CAA advises Quebecers, especially ones on holiday vacation, to start it up once in a while.
"Even though you don't need to get out, please go outside just start to your car," Gauthier said. "Make it run a couple of seconds just to make sure it's okay."
Because of the current cold weather conditions and the flood of roadside assistance requests CAA's receiving, their website is providing alternatives to calling them, like filling out online forms and using their mobile app.
