The borough of Lachine has stepped up surveillance after a man was arrested for secretly filming minors in the women's washroom at a local community centre, CJAD 800 has learned.
Montreal police say 32-year-old Francis Jodoin-Girard was arrested late last month and charged with voyeurism, forcible confinement and possession and production of pornography involving three minors during alleged incidents that happened in late October. One of the victims has not yet been identified. Jodoin-Girard is known to police.
About 80 organizations use the Albert-Gariépy community centre, including the Gymnitours gymnastics club.
In a letter sent to members obtained by CJAD 800, the club asks them to be very vigilant before and after classes, adding they don't have control over people who come and go to the centre which is a public space.
The letter says it was the coach who reported the suspect to police.
The borough of Lachine tells CJAD 800 it has 16 surveillance cameras at the centre along with a worker who does security rounds.
It's stepped up security at other municipal spaces such as librairies, arenas and parks. It's also conducting an audit of its security measures.
